Shree Samaleswari, the presiding deity of
Sambalpur, is a strong spiritual force in
the western region of Orissa and the
Chhattisga rh
state of India. On the bank of the river
Mahanadi the mother Goddess Samaleswari is
worshipped from ancient times as Jagatjanani,
Adishakti, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. The
region in which the temple is located
comprises of a rich cultural heritage.
Sambalpur region is popularly known as
Hirakhanda from ancient times. |

The people of Western Orissa
– representing 12 districts, 43% of total
geographical area, 30% of total population and
56% literacy rate of Orissa. Sambalpuri, the
local Oriya dialect is one of the languages
mostly spoken amongst the people of Western
Orissa. To bring togetherness, share sorrowness
and happiness, help the people of Western Orissa
visiting Bhubaneswar for official work, to
celebrate the cultures of Western Orissa, etc.
this Sangthan was formed in the year 1994 at
Bhubaneswar. Mataraj Dungdung and Rameswar Toppo
were the founder President and Secretary
General, respectively. They took lot of
initiative and motivated the people of Western
Orissa to become member of the Sangthan for a
greater cause. The work render by them is
praiseworthy and their tireless effort made to
form the Club with greater farsightedness.
Subsequently, Tapilal Maguri, Udit Pratap Dehuri
and A.N. Tiwari were also the President in
succession after the formation of the Sangthan.
During the course of time, the Sangthan faced
many hurdles and financial instability. Many ups
and down experienced during the course of time
and all the members effortlessly contributed to
give a better shape to the Sangthan. To unite
the people of Western Orissa, the members of the
Sangthan breathlessly organized many functions
like Nuakhai Bhetghat, Puspuni Bhetghat,
Puajuntia, installation of the new members of
the Sangthan and celebrations Jayanti of the
famous personalities of the Western Orissa. It
is to mention that the Nuakhai Bhetghat, in
general, is organized every year by the Sangthan
and is inaugurated by the Chief Minister of
Orissa invariably. It is needless to mention
that all the cultural troupes are also being
exhibited from the cultures of Western Orissa
like Karma Dance, Sambalpuri Dance, Ghoomra
Baja, Dalkahi Dance and many more. |

Rules and Regulations |
|
Area of Operation: The Organization will work within Orissa.
Executive Body:The members selected in the General Body meeting to manage the Sangathan will be the Executive Body.
Membership :Membership : Irrespective of cast creeds, Rich & poor any person a domicile of Western Orissa can be a member on payment of prescribed fee after found eligible by the Executive Body.
